Jesus is THE Son but God is bringing MANY sons to glory. One of the tasks God gives to his sons is to set the captives free even as elder Brother Jesus did.
John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
Joh 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Joh 8:33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
Joh 8:34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
Joh 8:35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
Joh 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
The Pharisees thought they were free. They thought they were not in bondage. Yet God saw them as those in bondage who needed to be set free.
How were they in bondage? TO THE LAW OF MOSES! They were in bondage to sin through the Law.
Without Law there is no sin. The Law was brought in that sin may be seen for what it is-sin–lawbreaking.
These Pharisees were strict law-keepers–and in all their law-keeping they sinned all the time.
They were slaves. Slaves to sin and enslaved by the Law. Thus the more they try to stop sinning, to keep the Law the more they sinned and broke the Law.
Now if we abide in Jesus –Who is the TRUTH we shall know the truth and the Truth shall set us free.
And so it comes down to our day. There are still those who vehemently hold to keeping the Law. They are slaves to sin. They are walking in opposition to Jesus Christ even while they imagine otherwise. They have set aside the grace of God. They have despised the cross and their end is to be burned in the fire until they are set free from such false imaginations. Imagining that they have any ability at all to be a good person…imagining that they have any strength at all to not sin. The fire shall burn these things . How? I believe God allows us to experience the end result of such blindness. We fall deeper and deeper into sin and bondage the more we discard Jesus as our only Life and only strength and only righteousness.
Any kingdom that is established on the Law of Moses is the judgement of God manifesting upon people who refuse the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. It will be a kingdom of strict law keepers devoid of love and peace and joy. It will be enforced by Pharisaical police who shall drag you off to the synagogues of Satan for refusing to let go of Jesus as your only righteousness. It shall be a chance for you to preach Jesus to them. In the hope that God sets them free just as Stephen preached and later Saul of Tarsus who was there listening to Stephen got saved.
Abraham’s natural descendants are in bondage to the Law of Moses–which enslaves them to their flesh and locks them into sin patterns of destruction. They need to be set free. Yet of course, as always they shall resist God and stiffen their necks in pride striking out at their rescuers who come to them as Jesus did.
God suffers long.
The slaves of sin –ie the Law keepers–shall not abide in God’s house. No. That house is a house built and established in, and on, and through, and by, GRACE. The Grace of God in Jesus Christ is the only foundation and the only building material God uses for His House. There are no Law of Moses bricks used. There is not one part of the foundation that is built upon Moses. God’s house is built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets who speak of Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross.
When grace comes to the heart bound by sin and judgements prison doors open and grace flows in.
All accusations cease when Jesus comes. Neither do I condemn you He says…now based upon that forgiveness you can go and sin no more. You are free as long as you dwell in My word.
The good words of His grace towards you and me set us free from the words of Moses and that ugly tree.
Better to partake of Life than to eat from the tree of Death.
There has always been two trees in the garden, just as there are two kingdoms at war with each other.
The Lord allowed them to take Him at Passover saying “This is your hour and the power of darkness.”
But in that seeming victory for the dark side–God won the victory for all human kind–especially for those who believe.
Once again the scene is set for a similar trap.
The Law keepers are rebuilding their Temple and the implements thereof. They are intent upon enslaving all mankind to the Law of Moses by force. Yet God says grace is greater. They shall find that the more they push the greater the grace of God shall be preached and demonstrated around the world. Jesus Christ is victorious and together with Him we shall set many free.
The one who thinks that being a Christian is about trying hard to be a good person…trying to keep the Laws of God….trying not to sin….HAS NOT ENTERED INTO JESUS YET. They are still eating from the Tree of death and are enslaved by the Law to their flesh. The sons of God shall set them free into the glorious liberty won by the Son of God – Jesus.
These prisoners are crying out to be set free even as they congratulate each other for keeping the Law.
