Any farmer knows that if he is to plant fruit trees, he needs to nurture them until they get established, otherwise they will not survive the harsh cold of winter, or the burning heat of summer.
2Co 1:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,nkjv
Our Father knows the things we will face and therefore He establishes us in Christ His Son so we are able to endure all things. In this establishing process the roots are encouraged to go deep while protection is offered the leaves.
2Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
Oh the love of the Father! He is also like a Mother to us. He shall establish us in Christ…in vital union with Christ. He also will guard, protect and keep us from the evil one…just as the Farmer does his trees. We are the planting of the Lord, His Oaks of righteousness that He may be glorified.
Paul talks a lot about being established in Christ and that God does it. Yet whatever God does He does through us. As I said in the last post, God raises up Shepherds to oversee the flock. These Shepherds are to work with God in establishing the sheep in Jesus. Most of that ministry is through prayer.
2Th 2:16,17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.
Oh Lord Jesus Christ , Oh Father..establish your people in every good word and work Lord!! Can you hear Paul’s heart?..It is the heart of Jesus FOR you. That you and I would be established IN HIM.
What does Establish mean?
The Greek word translated establish is “STERIZO”
1) to make stable, place firmly, set fast, fix,to strengthen, make firm, to render constant, confirm,
It is like the word Sterios(G4731)stiff, that is solid or stable
Until we are established we are not yet stable, not yet fixed, but are easily moved about…or away. It is like a grown man wrestling with a child. The child can not hold his footing but is easily moved out of the square. Our Father protects and nurtures us all through our time here, always establishing us deeper in Christ.
Being established in something means you are fully conversant with it. You are not a stranger to it. You are familiar with how it works and you move/live in it accordingly. A person in a new job takes a while to get established in that job. She is taught by others more experienced than she is….she learns the position well until such time as the boss knows she is established. Once established the boss does not have to spend as much time teaching her those things. Someone who is established in the position will be more productive than the one still learning.
The more established we are the less fear we have. Father wants us to walk in His Son fully established in Him. The established believer knows that she belongs. The un-established person fears. That is quite normal…that is why the gift of prophecy is great for encouraging weak ones in the faith. We all need encouragement as we are growing and being established in Christ.
Paul realised this and often went back to churches to encourage them in the faith.
Act_14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”
Act_15:41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
Act_18:23 After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
The word epistērizō is what the NKJV translates as strengthening…it means to support further, that is, reestablish: – confirm, strengthen.
All through our life God is reestablishing and strengthening and supporting us in the Faith. Why? Because as I said, we have a tendency to drift away!
Now I need to explain something here. Established in what?
Paul was not going around teaching people to be good Christians…to help the poor, to feed the hungry….to give money…to not sin…to make sure you are in every meeting. He was preaching h/His Gospel. Paul was wanting to establish the flock in Jesus Christ or in The faith. There is some confusion regarding this. Here is an example…
The King James Version says in Galatians 2:20 that “…I live by the faith of the Son of God..”
John Darby’s version says: “…I live in the faith of the Son of God,…”
But many modern versions like the CEV have “…and I now live by faith in the Son of God…”
The first 2 versions are correct, the third is error.
We do not live by faith in Jesus as if he is separate from us up there somewhere, coming back one day. Rather , we live by or through HIS FAITH…we live IN THE FAITH OF JESUS! Big difference. Paul would establish us in Christ, in His faith….NOT our faith in Jesus. The difference is HUGE.
The one who thinks he lives by faith in Jesus cannot. He is fooling himself.
Only Jesus lives the life that is pleasing to Father and that Life is yours NOW. Not the Jesus 2000 years ago, but the Jesus who is raised up in you. Christ in you the hope of glory. That Jesus is alive…and you are alive to God in Him. That Jesus is in UNION with Father-NOW, perfect UNION….and we are ONE SPIRIT with Him. It is HIS FAITH…HIS RELATIONSHIP…HIS RIGHT STANDING WITH FATHER…his TRUST…HIS OBEDIENCE..and we NOW live IN THAT FAITH…JESUS’ FAITH…not our faith in JESUS which wanes and sputters and disappears at times.
Thank God that we live BY THE FAITH OF ANOTHER…who is not separate from us UP THERE…but Who is ONE with us and is even our very heart…which is the NEW MAN that we are.
This is part of the GOOD NEWS that Paul taught and lived in. This is one aspect of Christ he was wanting to establish them in.
Having “faith in Jesus” keeps Him far away from us. Living IN,BY and THROUGH “The Faith of JESUS” is discriptive of our true position and reality in Him.
The Good News is that by the sacrifice of another you are justified….and by the life of Another IN YOU- you are made holy and blameless.
Follow Paul’s revelation…
I am crucified with Christ:
nevertheless I live;
yet not I,
but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by the faith of the Son of God,
who loved me, and gave himself for me.
God is not looking at you expecting you to have faith in Jesus….as if you can. God gives Faith…God gave you Jesus. This Jesus who ascended into the cloud and was hidden….is now hidden in you. This Jesus Who is perfect is your very life…and it is His perfect faith and Life that you share in and live by now. He is carrying you all the way…whether you think YOU have faith or not. If you have the Son of God you have HIS FAITH in you, working for you, bringing you constantly through all trials and tests…bringing you before the throne constantly.
