If Death and Hades are to be cast into the Lake of fire which burns forever and ever, then all those souls in death and hades shall also be in that same fire forever and ever. Even if one may say, Death and Hades are not literal places but are two different countries, (though I disagree with that idea) the same would be the result…both countries and the peoples in them will be cast into the lake of fire forever and ever.
The issue for me though is the Greek words translated as forever and ever.
Rev 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. New King James
eis aion aion –has been translated as “forever and ever”.
Yet everyone knows that an aion is not forever, but is an age or era of time.
From the same as G104; properly an age;
Thus literal renderings of the phrase “forever and ever”–eis aion aion–say….
“…and they shall be tormented day and night—to the ages of the ages.” Young’s Literal Version
“…they will suffer torture until the Ages of the Ages.” Weymouth
“…and they shall be tormented, day and night, unto the ages of ages.” Rotherham’s
“…tormented day and night into the eons of the eons.” Apostolic Bible Polyglot
So to me it is plain that an eon or aion is a length of time..an age…whereas forever and ever…or eternal..and eternity are not speaking of a long period of time…but something not of this creation. God is eternal, not subject to time…the Lake of fire is for a long long time no doubt…but not forever and not for eternity.
Thus the Fire shall destroy Death from all people
Death was destroyed at the Cross legally as Hebrews 2 says. That’s why believers have ‘passed from death to life and shall not come into judgement’…the ‘second death has no power’ over us. Death wont be totally put under Jesus feet until every last enemy is made to bow at his feet in loving submission and adoration….this is what Paul wrote about in 1 Cor 15.
1Co 15:20 But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.
1Co 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
1Co 15:23 But each in his own order(rank): Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.
1Co 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power.
1Co 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.
1Co 15:26 The last enemy that shall be abolished is death.
1Co 15:27 For, He put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that he is excepted who did subject all things unto him.
1Co 15:28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all.
God reveals here that all enemies–of which we all were–shall in the ages to come–(Eph 2:7)–come to repentance and faith towards our Lord Jesus—thus coming under his feet in surrender…and when the last death slave has come to Jesus then Death shall have been destroyed for that last one will have gone from death to life in Him…hallelujah!!
Everything God created has a purpose….but remember also that our God is a consuming fire Hebrews 12:29 Every person God created also has a purpose and I believe that their purpose is to know God and Jesus whom He has sent. God’s consuming fire shall burn away and purge all those things that stumble them so that they can repent and believe in Jesus—after all this is how we all get saved. God’s love never fails…so He will not fail to draw /drag all to Jesus even through fire.
